For fans of Brussels graffiti, here's another picture from Anderlecht. I'm sorry I can't post more at the moment, I'm SO busy writing a guide book (about Romania) that every waking moment is devoted to typing.
However, during the last couple of days the weather in Brussels was so glorious that I just had to take advantage of it - for who knows when we shall see the sun again?? - and jog off to Anderlecht's beautiful Neerpede Park to feed the ducks.
The graffiti lads obviously had the same idea as the waste land under the ring road was occupied by half a dozen artists in hoods and anti-paint-fume face masks, resembling urban guerrillas armed with aerosols.
However, as their artwork reveals, most of them are sensitive souls...
I'm trying to get up my nerve to ask one of them to come and decorate my bureau wall with a giant mural.
However, one lad was painting a pair of large-breasted sci-fi maidens indulging in a little frisky sci-fi frolicking, and I'm not sure that's quite what I want. How would I explain that one to the landlord??
Anderlecht's graffiti genii definitely have a thing about dogs, they appear to be quite a common theme.
This one looks pretty terrifying.

I think it's disappointing that some other graffiti artist felt the urge to scribble over this beautiful portrait. The squirly bits are quite pretty, though.

Brussels beauties

A fantastic shop facade on Chaussee de Mons in southern Anderlecht.
This 'Sporting' lettering reminds me a little of the fandabeedozee neon signs in Budapest dating from the 1960s which are dying out now. They would announce cafes, eszpresszo bars, cipobolt (shoe shop), fodrasz (hairdresser's), oras (watchmaker's) and the like. [Elnezest, hogy nem tudok irni magyar ekezettel ezen a rohadt gepen...]

Brussels babes

Anderlecht's main square, Place de la Vaillance, (Square of Courage) is the most beautiful of all the squares in Brussels.
Personally, I prefer it to the Grand'Place which is always too crowded and overwhelming for my hermit taste.

Brussels graffiti art masters, take one

Quite a stricking and unusually imaginative image.
I hope that's not a pitbull terrier emerging from the guy's mouth as I loathe them more than any other animal.
They're an evil, artificial 'breed' created purely to cause pain and heartache.
In Brixton, south London, where I used to live, they held regular dog fights - maybe they still do - and they went around the district late at night 'training' the dogs by goading them to attack people's pet cats.
I will never get over the horror of seeing two revolting pitbulls tear our beloved cat apart, puncturing his lungs when their jaws locked.
I would shoot every single one of them if I could.

I love this piece of work. It's a beautiful painting - a refreshing change from those ugly tagging scribbles - which appears to have drawn inspiration from Picasso's Guernica

...but what is disgraced English DJ Jonathan King doing plonked right in the centre of the painting? Any ideas?
Suggestions as to the possible identities of the man - if not Mr King...?

Brussels artists create some of the most amazing graffiti in Europe.
There's a place in Andelecht where you can see their art in all its glory - however you'll have to find it for yourself or ask me nicely...I'm thinking of commissioning the next Belge Banksy or Keith Haring to do my living room wall...

This is my heartfelt plea......

Somebody please, please help me - especially all you kind bloggers out there in Belgiumland.

My darlin' blogspot insists on doing all its dashboard stuff in Dutch and I can't for the life of me work out how to get it back into English.

Frankly, I have lost interest in blogging, as I have real books to write and can't be arsed to put finger to keyboard for any second longer than is necessary, especially as I have a fantastic, wild, organic garden that is now creeping ever forward and upward and advancing triffid-like all across Anderlecht...

However, I occasionally feel the urge for a little - how you say? - letting off steam (or is it mad banshee-ranting?) and a blog is a great thing for that - if irritatingly self-indulgent wank for the most part.

I could also entertain you all with fantastic photos of Brussels (especially the beautiful and deeply misunderstood and misrepresented district of Anderlecht), Bratislava (professional shots that I took for work), Budapest (more profi travel shots), Brixton, Berlin, Barcelona, Bilbao, Buenos Aires, Brno, Bradford and Budleigh Salterton.

Brussels graffiti art

There is an open-air art gallery found under the ring-road just south of Anderlecht's beautiful pond-filled park.
A couple of Sundays ago, it appeared that the Anderlecht local council had given the talented young artists of the commune permission to decorate the concrete columns that support the interminable ring road traffic.
Graffiti artists of all genres, but usually the sci-fi horror comic brand, were busily spray painting the columns and covering the dreary grey with a flurry of colour and imagination. Unfortunately, the least talented graffiti 'artists', the uninspired taggers had also been out, doing the equivalent of a dog urinating on a bush, and had marked their territory all over the interesting art work.
Also, after we had been on a hike to a Flemish windmill, just south of Anderlecht, we returned to discover that the painting of Tupac - well I think it's supposed to be him - had disappeared, covered up by a large breasted sci-fi maiden in a Gothic Martian porno fantasy pic.
Pity.
